La Comida finds a home at First United Methodist Church

The senior lunch program La Comida, which has been looking for a permanent space for six years, announced today that it has moved into an indoor space at the First United Methodist Church at Hamilton Avenue and Webster Street in downtown Palo Alto.

In July, the nonprofit moved to the parking lot behind Avenidas and inside Avenidas’ hallways. However, splitting diners between indoor and outdoor spaces was not ideal for La Comida’s congregate dining programs. With Avendias closing during the holidays, La Comida scrambled once again to find a new home with a new partner willing to provide a larger, cohesive indoor space.

Rev. Burke Owens, the staff and trustees at First United Methodist came to the rescue. Under the new deal, all La Comida patrons will dine together indoors in a large ballroom space with plenty of room for social activities. The program will run Monday to Friday, between 11:45 a.m. and 12:30 p.m at 625 Hamilton Ave.

In addition to the downtown program, La Comida will continue to run its congregate lunch program at Stevenson House in south Palo Alto.

  1. Wow- this looks to be a much more inviting space for the La Comida seniors. Looks like the First United Methodist Church came to the rescue.
