State Sen. Josh Becker, who had been considering a run for the House seat Anna Eshoo is giving up, said today he has decided to stay in the state Senate. He said he plans to run for re-election to the senate in the March 2024 primary.
There had been speculation that he would run for the House seat, though many observers see Santa Clara County Supervisor Joe Simitian of Palo Alto as being the front runner in that race. Besides, that race has already drawn seven candidates including Simitian.
“I truly love being your State Senator — with your partnership — I’ve been able to make a difference and have accomplished many of the things I promised you I would do when you elected me in 2020,” Becker said in a statement. “ I am excited to continue our work, the people’s work, and continue leading the world in our fight for impactful climate change initiatives, transforming our economy to work for all, delivering on education, social justice, and our collective efforts to find solutions for unsheltered homelessness.”
“Your respect and friendship means a great deal and I am honored to earn your support and your vote. I am also humbled by the outpouring of outreach for me to consider running for Congress,” Becker said. “It’s been overwhelming and heartfelt. I love my current job and we have so much work to get done and I am in the best position now to deliver for all of you. I hope you will continue to be part of my team.”
