Woman violently attacked; man arrested

San Mateo County deputies this morning (Sept. 24) arrested 35-year-old man after the woman he had been dating said he attempted to rape and strangle her in the North Fair Oaks neighborhood.

Catalino Ortiz-Perez of Redwood City was booked into jail for attempted murder, attempted rape and domestic violence.

At 1:30 a.m., deputies were sent to the 400 block of 4th Avenue on a report of a physical altercation. They found a woman inside the residence with visible injuries to her neck, according to a report from the sheriff’s office. Deputies located the man in the area of the residence.

The two told deputies they had been in a dating relationship.

The woman told deputies Ortiz-Perez attempted to rape her, according to the sheriff. During the incident, she said he struck her several times in the head with his hands and a belt. She said he then got on top of the her and attempted to strangle her by putting his hands around her neck.
