Two teenagers were arrested yesterday (June 15) in connection to a shooting that killed a 15-year-old boy from East Palo Alto.
Police arrested a Palo Alto resident and an East Palo Alto resident for the murder of Inty “Manitas” Arellano Garcia.
Police found a semi-automatic pistol with an extended magazine in one of the teen’s homes, according to a statement from Interim Police Chief Jeff Liu.
Liu did not release the names or ages of the two arrested, but further information will likely be released today by the District Attorney’s Office when they are arraigned in court. Despite being under 18, the names of the suspects and basic information about the crime can be released if they are charged with certain crimes, such as murder. Police did not say how the three knew each other.
Liu said surveillance camera footage in the area was helpful in tracking down the two suspects and getting the gun.
ShotSpotter, a system that picks up the sound of gunfire in East Palo Alto, alerted police to the shooting at 9:04 p.m. on Monday in the 1900 block of Manhattan Avenue by the Four Seasons Hotel. Officers arrived to find the victim in an alleyway between a parking space and an apartment complex. He was taken to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries there, police said.
Garcia’s family has put together a Go-FundMe page to cover funeral costs. Many people who have left comments on the fundraiser remember him as a “sweet” kid.
