Body of infant found on conveyor belt at Greenwaste plant

The body of an infant was found on a conveyor belt on Friday (Oct. 25) at the Greenwaste recycling facility in San Jose, police said.

Police were called about 3:30 a.m. Friday to GreenWaste Recovery at 625 Charles St. to a report of a dead infant found at the facility, according to San Jose police spokeswoman Officer Gina Tepoorten.

When officers arrived, they found the baby on a conveyor belt.

Greenwaste has contracts to haul refuse from several cities including Palo Alto. It wasn’t known if Palo Alto waste was being handled there or at another plant in Sunnyvale.

The case is being treated as a homicide, police said.

The infant’s identity has not been released and the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Detective Ramon Sanchez or Detective Sergeant Isidro Bagon of the San Jose Police Department’s homicide unit at (408) 277-5283. Persons wishing to remain anonymous may call Crime Stoppers at (408) 947-7867.
