Mountain View dermatologist Dr. Duke Khuu wants to help you fight your frown lines and crow’s feet and put your best face forward with Dysport and Botox.
Do you have lines that seem to have settled into your forehead or wrinkles at the outer edges of your eyes? That’s because, over time, the muscles above and between the eyebrows repeatedly contract and tighten, causing the brow wrinkles. Other facial muscles around your eyes work when you laugh, smile or squint.
But Botox and Dysport are neuromodulators used to attack those so-called “dynamic lines” — lines and folds that appear when you smile, laugh or frown, such as the crease in your forehead when you raise your eyebrows. Injections block signals from the nerves to the muscles, preventing contractions of the muscles that cause the lines.
Botox can be used to reduce wrinkles around the eyes and forehead, frown lines, necklace lines, smoker lines, bleeding lipstick lines and downturned corners of the mouth.
There are certain differences between the two products, and Dr. Khuu will use his experience and expertise to determine what will work best for your particular needs. Dr. Khuu says Dysport can be particularly effective for some areas, and that the treatments cover a more spread-out area than Botox does. This means a larger treatment area can be addressed in fewer injections, which can be beneficial when addressing larger treatment areas.
“It works great for crow’s feet area and in the glabella area, which is the smooth part of the forehead above and between the eyebrows,” says Dr. Khuu. “It lasts just as long or longer than Botox in my experience.”
For your other cosmetic dermatology needs, Dr. Khuu also offers dermal fillers, laser treatments to tighten skin or remove age spots, laser hair removal, aesthetic services, and treatments for varicose and spider veins.
An expert in medical dermatology as well, he offers complete skin cancer diagnosis and treatment, as well as treatments for a variety of conditions from acne and eczema to rosacea, psoriasis and vitiligo. He can also address hair loss, excessive sweating and nail issues. No matter what brings someone to Dr. Khuu’s office, he consults with each patient to develop a “game plan” — not just for treatment, but for comprehensive, maintainable skin care.
