Two people died after a minivan crashed into six vehicles in East Palo Alto this morning, according to the San Mateo County sheriff’s office.
The man driving the minivan died at the scene of the crash, which occured around 8:30 a.m. near Bay Road and University Avenue, according to the sheriff’s office. A woman who was riding in the minivan was taken to the hospital where she later died, according to sheriff’s spokeswoman Gretchen Spiker.
At least three other people sustained injuries, however none were reported as life threatening, according to Spiker.
The intersection of Bay Road and University Avenue was closed until 12:30 p.m. following the crash.
The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash because a SamTrans Ride Plus van was involved, and the office has a contract to investigate collisions involving SamTrans vehicles.
