Palo Alto Mayor Vicki Veenker and about 60 other members of the community came out on Aug. 30 to celebrate the artistry and creativity of the residents of Palo Alto Commons senior living community whose exhibition at the Palo Alto Arts Center just closed last week. The exhibition, which ran through Sept. 1, featured artwork created throughout the artists’ lives and incorporated their passion and personal stories. The closing reception was held Sunday, Aug. 30 at the Palo Alto Art Center and included live harp music, refreshments and many opportunities to mingle and appreciate art in diverse media, from painting and photography to jewelry and textile art. The artists were residents of Palo Alto Commons’ independent living, assisted living and memory care communities. “Our Resident Art Exhibition Closing Reception at the Palo Alto Art Center was a wonderful celebration of creativity and community,” said Palo Alto Commons Executive Director Li Li. “Residents, families, local seniors, Mayor Vicki Veenker and property owner Bill Reller joined us to celebrate our talented resident artists.” Founded in 1990 by Bill Reller and his late wife, Carolyn, Palo Alto Commons is passionate about creating opportunities for residents to remain active, engaged and connected. Resident artists whose work was displayed at the arts center included:

• Helen Shing: Chinese ink and watercolor art
• Marjorie Groshart: acrylics on canvas
“Seeing the pride and joy on our residents’ faces was truly special,” said Li. “The event beautifully reflected our belief that creativity, purpose, and meaningful connections continue at every stage of life.
