San Francisco 49ers majority owner and CEO Jed York was arrested Sunday in East Palestine, Ohio. He was initially detained on suspicion of engaging in prostitution during a human trafficking task force operation, ESPN reports.
York, 46, is a Los Altos Hills resident. He has a home there with his wife Danielle Belluomini York, a former public school teacher. They have two sons.
The arrest occurred at the Wheat Hill Mobile Home Community in East Palestine, where local police were assisting the regional human trafficking task force.
The original prostitution charge was amended by prosecutors to misdemeanor disorderly conduct. He was also charged with misdemeanor possessing criminal tools.
This morning in court, York pleaded no contest to both misdemeanor counts. He was sentenced to two days in jail, one day for each count which could be served concurrently. He received credit for the day and night he spent in jail, which means he won’t be returning to jail.
He paid $1,150 in total fines ($150 for disorderly conduct and $1,000 for possessing criminal tools). Records also show that York had a cellphone returned to him and that $160 that was seized from him during his arrest was to be given to the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force as part of the plea agreement. York also completed on online course..
York, 46, grew up in nearby Youngstown, Ohio. York’s grandfather, Edward J. DeBartolo, bought the 49ers in 1977 from the Morabito family, which founded the franchise in 1946. Edward DeBartolo turned the team over to his son, Eddie, who got caught up in a Louisiana casino scandal and pleaded guilty to a felony. The NFL forced Eddie to cede control of the team to his sister, Denise DeBartolo York, and her husband, Dr. John York in 2000. They put their son, Jed, in charge in 2008. He was named as the team’s principal majority owner in 2024.
The city where York was arrested, East Palestine, made headlines in February 2023 when a Norfolk Southern freight train derailed, causing a massive fire and spilling toxic chemicals.
York isn’t the first NFL owner arrested in a prostitution case. In February 2019, New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft was charged with two misdemeanor counts of soliciting prostitution after he was caught on hidden police surveillance cameras in a Jupiter, Fla., spa. Kraft’s lawyers successfully argued that the secret police video recordings violated his constitutional rights against unreasonable search and seizure, and the charges were dropped.
Nothing new here. Jed is a punk and a spoiled brat. Jed is married so considering the original charges that were probably lowered by greasing some palms, he’s probably going to have some explaining to do.
