A man is dead in Redwood City after being struck by a pickup truck he was chasing down after it hit the car he was in, police said today (July 15).
Redwood City officers responded to a call of a car crash involving a pedestrian at 7:41 p.m. on Tuesday at the intersection of Woodside Road and Hudson Street, police say.
Officers arrived and found fire and medical personnel providing aid to an adult male, according to police. Despite lifesaving efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene, police say. The man’s name has not been publicly released by the coroner’s office yet, pending notification of his next of kin.
The man had been a passenger in a Jeep traveling southbound on Hudson Street, when it was sideswiped by a Ford pickup truck exiting an alley near the Shell gas station, which is located at the corner of Hudson and Woodside Road, according to police.
Police say the driver of the victim’s vehicle pulled over following the collision, but the Ford continued westbound on Woodside Road.
While the Ford was stuck in traffic, the man exited the Jeep and attempted to stop the fleeing pickup truck. During the incident, he fell from the vehicle and was struck by the Ford, police say.
Redwood City Police officers and investigators conducted a search of the surrounding area to find the Ford. A police drone eventually located the unoccupied suspect vehicle, police say.
The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation.
Redwood City police officers are asking anyone with information regarding this incident to contact the department at 650-780-7100.
