Man arrested on charges he tried to meet up with youth for sex

Police have arrested a man who is accused of trying to meet up with a minor in Menlo Park for sexual purposes.

Arrested Thursday was Ricardo Antonio Romerolique, 31, of Redwood City.

Police officers posed as minors on social media and were contacted by the suspect who, upon learning of the minor’s age, arranged to meet with the youth in Menlo Park, a statement from Menlo Park police said.

“In these encounters, suspects used sexually explicit language and/ or sent graphic photos to undercover personnel,” police said in a statement. “Once the suspects arrived at the agreed location, they were taken into custody.” The statement didn’t say whether the decoy was posing as a boy or a girl.

Police said Romerolique was booked for three felonies:

  • Attempted lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14 years of age;
  • Contacted a minor with the intent to commit a sex crime or other serious felony;
  • Arranged or meet with minor with intent to engage in lewd or lascivious behavior.

Menlo Park police said other agencies involved in the arrest were the Sunnyvale Police Department, Newark Police Department, and the Northern California Regional Intelligence Center (NCRIC). NCRIC, which has an outpost in San Francisco, is the agency that stores license-plate data for local police departments.
