Pedestrian killed, suspected hit-and-run driver arrested for DUI and murder

A pedestrian was killed Sunday morning in Mountain View and the driver suspected of hitting him has been arrested on charges including DUI, police said.

At around 7:15 a.m. on Sunday, officers were dispatched to a pedestrian collision at the intersection of Amphitheater Parkway and Joaquin Road. Officers arrived and found a pedestrian in the roadway with severe injuries.

Officers immediately administered first aid until the Fire Department arrived and continued treatment. The pedestrian was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Mountain View Police officers were able to locate the fleeing vehicle a short distance away from where the collision had occurred and identified the driver, Erick Barrios, 42, of Campbell.

Barrios was booked into the Santa Clara Main Jail on one count of murder, one count of felony hit-and-run with injury, and one count of felony driving under the influence and an outstanding warrant.
