Kiwanis honors VanDerveer

The Kiwanis Club of Palo Alto will present the Kiwanis Angel of Service award to legendary Stanford women’s basketball coach Tara VanDerveer at a dinner on Dec. 11 at the Sheraton Palo Alto Hotel, 625 El Camino Real, Palo Alto.

Reception tickets are $75 and available at KiwanisPaloAlto.org/Tickets. Tickets will also be sold at the door.

VanDerveer, who brought an energetic and positive approach to the game, won her 1,000th career game on Feb. 3, 2017.

VanDerveer led her Stanford teams to three NCAA Championships (1990, 1992, 2021), one of four coaches in the history of the sport to win three titles. She retired this year.

She’s being honored by the Kiwanis Club of Palo Alto, which is part of Kiwanis International, a worldwide organization of service clubs that perform community service in their local communities and provide funds for scholarships to students and grants to local nonprofits. The Palo Alto club is celebrating its 100th year of service on Feb. 13, 2025.
