A Redwood City man, who was convicted of violently rape of a woman and threatening to rape a jail employee, now faces up to 75 years to life in prison, a prosecutor said.
A jury on Oct. 16 convicted Anthony Santino Laurentino, 37, of nine felonies, most related to a Jan. 8, 2015, beating and rape of a sex worker he had invited to a cottage in his mother’s Stambaugh Street home, according to Chief Deputy District Attorney Shin-Mee Chang.
In that case, after the woman began pleasuring Laurentino, he viciously attacked her, hitting her in the head with a bottle and glass pitcher, removing her clothes before beating and raping her over three hours, according to Chang.
Laurentino then told the woman to leave, despite her bleeding profusely, Chang said. The woman had multiple rib, hand and skull fractures from the attack.
Laurentino has been in jail for the past nine years, with the case getting put off for multiple reasons, including the Covid shutdown stymieing the courts, Laurentino being examined multiple times to see if he was mentally fit to go through court proceedings and subpoenaed records taking over a year to be released, according to court records.
Additionally, on June 16, 2020, Laurentino told a mental health worker at Maguire Jail in Redwood City that he “needed” to rape her, according to the voices in his head, Chang said. The jail worker was saved by a deputy after she screamed, according to the DA’s office.
