Hate crime is the subject of a community meeting

The difference between a hate crime and a hate incident is one of the topics that will be discussed Tuesday (Oct. 15) in a discussion sponsored by Palo Alto’s Human Relations Commission.

Mayor Greer Stone will lead a discussion that will include Palo Alto police Capt. James Reifschneider, Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen, and Agustin Lopez, the FBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge for San Francisco.

Topics will include understanding the difference between a hate crime and a hate incident, how and where to report hate crimes, and resources for victims. A question-and-answer period is planned too.

The event begins with refreshments at 5:30 and the program at 6 p.m. at the Mitchell Park Community Center, 3700 Middlefield Road in Palo Alto.

The event is free and open to the public but organizers are asking people to register at creatingsafercommunitiesCPA.eventbrite.com.
