September 26, 1960 – July 10, 2024
Georgia Laughrey, 63, was a beloved figure of Woodside and South San Francisco, CA. Georgia passed away peacefully in her childhood home surrounded by family on July 10, 2024 (4:20 pm).
She lived richly in magic, music, arts, silliness, service, and kindness. Known for her welcoming spirit, enthusiasm for life, and contagious quirkiness – her light will never fade.
She graduated Mercy High School in 1978 and earned a B.S. in Business (Accounting) from San Francisco State University, but her career in finance was cut short by tragedy. Soon after starting a family, she lost her mother, husband, and father. Despite this, she persevered as a single mother and later as a grocery clerk, spreading joy wherever she went.
Georgia was preceded in death by her spouse Armand Rios, parents William and Barbara Laughrey, in-laws Armando and Lupe Rios, and kitties Gene and Roy.
She is survived by her children, Victor Rios and Adele Escoto (James Escoto Jr. and family James Sr., Laura, and Jeffrey), her sister Barbara DeBold (Don DeBold), niece Dominique DeBold, niece Danielle DeBold (Evan DeBold and children Zachary and Noah), nephew Eric DeBold, and pets Earl Grey, Stella Luna, Pip, Peco, and Asuna.
She is also survived by close friends. Among them are Jess Cavazos Jr. (Jeff Murray), Lorraine Ryan, Matthew Ryan, Ben Boyd, Carol Raczynski, Joey Chow, Yi Qing Jiang, Tiffany Kellum, Bri and Beau Woodson, Jasmine Butler, her deeply cherished co-workers and patrons of Robert’s Market in Woodside and many more.
A memorial fundraiser is being held online. Friends may visit at 3:00pm where a rosary will be held at 6:30pm on Thursday, July 25th, with the funeral service at 11:00am on Friday, July 25th all at Duggan’s Serra Mortuary in Daly City. Burial to immediately follow service at Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma.
As Georgia would say: Don’t Fear The Reaper, que será será, carpe diem, meow, awooo~, let’s do the time warp again, and may all your days be circus days! Thank you.
