Two candidates for Los Altos City Council are neck and neck in fundraising.
Mountain View Housing Manager Anky Van Deursen has received 41 donations totaling $15,376, and former Mayor Lynette Lee Eng has received 11 donations totaling $13,375, campaign finance forms show.
Van Deursen’s donors include Assemblyman Mare Berman ($500), Santa Clara County Supervisor Margaret Abe-Koga ($150), Los Altos Councilman Jonathan Weinberg ($250) and Vice Mayor Lany Lang ($200).
Lee Eng’s largest donations are from Saratoga resident Yuh-Ning Chen ($5,000) and Los Altos residents John Fennell ($2,500) James Jolly ($2,000) and Richard Baer ($1,500).
Van Deursen, 68, oversees Mountain View’s rent control and tenant relocation assistance program. She said she’s planning to retire by the end of the year and wants to take what she’s learned from her job back home to Los Altos, where she’s lived for the last 35 years. She’s endorsed by all four council members and 10 former mayors.
Lee Eng, 64, served two terms on the council from 2016 to 2024, including a stint as mayor in 2018. She’s aligned with a group of residents who put Measure D on the ballot, which would require the city to get voter approval before developing downtown parking lots.
This will be the first election in Los Altos where the city is broken up into five districts, each with about 6,334 residents. Van Deursen and Lee Eng are running in south Los Altos around Grant Park. Lang is running unopposed in the area around downtown.
