The drivers of two cars were killed in a five-vehicle crash on I-280 in Los Altos Hills, the CHP reported.
At about 5 p.m. on Thursday, a Lexis headed north on the freeway veered off the road and crashed into the center concrete median, overturning onto the I-280 southbound lanes.
When the Lexus overturned, it collided with a Kia SUV going south. The Lexus driver was ejected and landed on the southbound freeway. Two cars driving ahead of the Kia, a Tesla SUV and a Toyota SUV, were both damaged by debris from the Lexus. The drivers of the Toyota SUVs weren’t injured. However, a tire from the Lexus flew off and hit a Toyota sedan, killing the driver of that car.
The crash closed down the southbound lanes of 280, detouring traffic to Magdalena Avenue for more than four hours.
The two drivers who were killed haven’t been publicly identified.
It’s unknown if alcohol or drugs were involved in the crash. The CHP said they’re still investigating. Anyone with information about the collision is urged to contact CHP at (650) 779-2700.
