Two people who died in an East Palo Alto car crash were Bobby McGee, 69, of Menlo Park, and Carolyn Cupil, 63, of Belmont, the coroner’s office announced today.
McGee was driving a minivan when he crashed into six vehicles. He died at the scene of the crash, which happened around 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday near Bay Road and University Avenue. Cupil, who was a passenger of the minivan, was taken to the hospital where she later died.
McGee’s sister, Dorothy Faye McGee, told KTVU yesterday that he was suffering from heart failure and most likely had a medical emergency while driving.
“I guess he had a heart attack, because they said his feet were on the pedal when they got him out the car,” Dorothy McGee said in a KTVU interview.
At least three other people sustained injuries, however none were reported as life threatening, according to San Mateo County sheriff’s spokeswoman Gretchen Spiker.
