A man has died after being shot by Redwood City police after a standoff.

Redwood City Police were called to the 200 block of Hazel Avenue art 2:31 p.m. today (Nov. 11) after getting a phone call about a man shooting the sidewalk, police said.

Police responded to the area and using a drone, found the man, Jose Reynaldo Lombera, 48, of Redwood City, nearby, according to the statement from Lt. Jeff Clements.

Police tried to talk to Lombera, but he got a gun and pointed it toward an officer, which is when officers fired, Clements said. Police fired both “lethal” and “less-lethal” weapons at Lombera, but did not specify what the “less-lethal” weapon was.

Lombera was hit and was taken to a hospital where he died from his injuries.

Neighbor Daisy Morales told the Post that she got home from work around 3:10 p.m. and saw police on her street. A few minutes later, she heard six gunshots and saw police run into her neighbor’s home.

An ambulance came and Morales saw a man taken out of the home on a gurney, she said.

Another neighbor, Tony Morales, told the Post that the inital shooting was a warning shot by Lombera because he and another neighbor were having a disagreement about a dog.

Police and the DA’s office are on scene investigating. As is protocol in San Mateo County, when there is an officer involved shooting, the DA’s office investigates the case.
