Evacuation lifted for downtown Los Altos

From city website.

At 10:17 a.m. today (Nov. 3) the city of Los Altos ordered a mandatory evacuation for downtown due to a gas leak.

The leak has been reported in Parking Plaza North near 1st Street. An audible leak can be heard, indicating a significant amount of gas escaping, the city said.

Santa Clara County Fire Department is working with Los Altos to evacuate everyone. People are asked to avoid the entire downtown Los Altos area between Foothill, Edith and Main until further notice.

At 11:37 a.m., the evacuation order for most of downtown Los Altos was lifted. The only exemption is for the building at 199 First St., which firefighters are still ventilating, according to a notice from the city.

There were no injuries and no buildings were damaged as a result of the leak, police said.
