A homeless man has been arrested for throwing a table at a stranger in downtown Palo Alto, police said today (July 8).

A man in his 30s told police that he was walking on the first block of University Avenue on Sunday morning when he was approached by Phillip Dontay Steward, 42, police said.
Steward allegedly threatened to harm the man without any provocation and then picked up a table and threw it at the man, police said.
The man was able to block the table with his forearm, but hurt it in the process, police said.
Officers arrested Steward on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats and vandalism.
Steward is in jail in lieu of $51,000 and is set to appear in court tomorrow.
