Man crashes car deliberately while arguing with woman, police say

Redwood City said they police have arrested a man who allegedly assaulted a female passenger in his car and then deliberately crashed the vehicle into a center divide in the 500 block of Winslow Street.

Julio Cesar Cruz, 26, of Redwood City, is being held without bail for on suspicion of reckless driving, kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, and domestic violence.

Police received several calls at 5:44 p.m. on Monday about the crash. When officers arrived, they found a vehicle with major front-end damage and its airbags deployed. A female passenger was outside of the vehicle and its driver had walked away from the scene, police said.

San Mateo County Sheriff’s deputies were in the area and spotted Cruz. He was arrested without incident.

Investigators said they believe that Cruz assaulted the woman while driving recklessly, then intentionally crashed the vehicle into a center divide.
