A Half Moon Bay resident has been arrested for allegedly stealing “Yes on Measure A” political signs, a San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman said.
Monica Berlin, 46, was arrested and will likely face a misdemeanor that violates her parole, said District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe.
She was caught on video, which has been posted online.
When deputies arrived at Bloom Lane in Half Moon Bay, Berlin admitted to throwing away the signs and showed the deputies where she had placed them, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Gretcher Spiker said.
Berlin posted a video of her own on X, formerly Twitter, to show her encounter with deputies.
“If it’s a political sign, you are not allowed to take it for any reason. Regardless of whose it is,” a deputy said in a video Berlin posted of her arrest. “They’re political signs; that’s like a First Amendment violation.”
“I think it’s harassment against Christina Corpus because they are a paid campaign against her,” Berlin said in the video. “I was trying to clean up the neighborhood.”
As Berlin is shown in the video walking to the dumpster to receive the signs, the conversation continues.
“It’s just not yours, ma’am,” another deputy said in the video. “Why grab something that does not belong to you?”
“I just didn’t know that it was a violation of free speech,” Berlin said in the video.
Wagstaffe said Berlin was just released on Thursday after serving two weeks for violating restraining orders, one against Supervisor Noelia Corzo. Berlin had continued calling Corzo, which violated her restraining order.
While no new charges have been filed with the DA’s Office, Wagstaffe said Berlin has been through mental health court and has been convicted of arson for setting fires around Half Moon Bay.
And this is just the type of supporter that Corpus caters to. Losers, criminals, halfwits, and generally the ill-informed. Vote YES on Measure A and end Corpus’ reign of terror on the good people of San Mateo County.
