Police arrest 15-year-old in murder investigation

Redwood City police say they have arrested a 15-year-old in connection with the shooting death of an 18-year-old in the 500 block of Adams Street at about 1 a.m. Thursday.

Police are not identifying the suspect because of his age, but he is being held in Juvenile Hall. His was a resident of Redwood City.

The story begins early Thursday morning when police responded to a report of a person down middle of the street in the 500 block of Adams. Police found an 18-year-old man suffering from a single gunshot would to the torso.

Firefighters and paramedics quickly responded, but the man was pronounced dead.

Later Thursday, police got a call about a family disturbance and learned that a 15-year-old had assaulted another family member, police said. Police suspected the 15-year-old was involved in the shooting. Officers found him and he was arrested for assaulting a family member.

During the investigation, police said they “established probable cause” to arrest the 15-year-old for the murder of the 18-year-old victim.

“This appears to have been an isolated incident between individuals known to each other, and not a random act of violence,” Redwood City police said in a statement.
