Robert Tankersley, 80, of Redwood City, left us too soon on December 7, 2024. He was the oldest of ten, born to his young parents on a farm in Bonanza, Arkansas. Robert joined the Army when he was 17 and proudly served his country as a paratrooper and sharpshooter until he was honorably discharged. While he was serving, his family moved to Belmont, California. Upon his return his mom’s new neighbor fell in love with him and wanted him to meet her daughter JoAnn. The two instantly hit it off, fell madly in love and wed. They had a 60-year love affair until JoAnn’s passing in June 2024.
Robert and JoAnn welcomed their first daughter, Gina when he was just 22; and three and half years later, they were surprised by twin daughters, Lisa (Jamie) and Michelle (Rob). The young couple bought their first home in Newark where they made lifelong friends and enjoyed neighborhood parties, camping, boating, and listening to all the best music, which they passed down to their girls. As a young family they moved to Redwood City and built their forever home, establishing roots amongst other young families and making lifelong friends.
After living with four women, Robert was over the moon when their first and second grandbabies were boys, Max and Jake. Finally, he had someone to share his love of working on cars, motorcycles and RC Airplanes. His third grandchild, his babydoll, Ava, was born last and spoiled by her Papa.
Robert will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for his unwavering kindness, love for his country, family and friends, honesty, work ethic, dedication, unyielding generosity, sense of humor and ability to fix anything.
A Celebration of Life luncheon to be held at The Elks Lodge located at 938 Wilmington, Redwood City on January 11 at 11:30 am.
