A movie theater at the San Antonio Shopping Center in Mountain View is getting a second act.
Alamo Drafthouse, based in Austin with 44 locations nationwide, is planning to open in the spring at 2575 California Street, the company announced yesterday (Dec. 3).
“By 2025 we’ll have been in San Francisco for 10 years, and this feels like the perfect way to celebrate the decade of support and enthusiasm we’ve received from Bay Area film fans,” Alamo Drafthouse CEO Michael Kusterman told the news outlet Variety.
The Alamo Drafthouse is also taking over a theater at Westfield Valley Fair in Santa Clara.
The Alamo Drafthouse chain was bought by Sony Pictures Experiences in June.
The Alamo Drafthouse has a ze-ro-tolerance policy for talking or cell phones, and small children aren’t al-lowed. Movies are paired with burgers, pizzas, cocktails and craft beer.
Abrupt closure
The Showplace Icon Theatre abruptly closed at the San Antonio Shopping Center on June 30, leaving only three theaters on the mid-Peninsula that show new movies.
The theater opened in October 2016 with 10 movie rooms, a bar and a kitchen.
