A 24-year-old cyclist was hit by a car in front of Sequoia High School in Redwood City and died three days later in the hospital, police said.

The man was hit by a car near the intersection of Arch Street and Broadway at 6:34 p.m. on Aug. 16, according to Lt. Jeff Clements.

When officers got to the scene, the bicyclist was unconscious.

The man has not been publicly identified yet, but the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office said he died of multiple blunt force injuries.

Clements said that the driver of the vehicle did not seem to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol and the incident is still being investigated. The driver also was cooperating with officers.

A day before the incident the police department reported that two pedestrians were hit and only experienced moderate injuries.

The incident on Aug. 15 happened on Harrison Avenue and Duane Street near North Star Academy and Grand Canyon Middle School Trek around 8 a.m. The police department reminded the public to be careful especially around pick up and drop off times.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident at Broadway and Arch to contact Sgt. Peter Cang at (650) 780-7159.

  1. Wait until there is a bike lane along El Camino Real instead of parking spaces. Sad that there will be many more stories like this.

  2. If you think Palo Alto is getting too congested, stop voting for progressives who have developers in their pockets! Let’s vote for sensible people instead.
