Suspect arrested in downtown garage murder case

Alvaro Javier Lopez

Palo Alto police say they have arrested a 34-year-old homeless man on suspicion of murdering another homeless man, whose body was found in the city parking garage at 445 Bryant St.

Alvaro Javier Lopez was jailed in connection with the murder of James Allen Rudolph, 60.

On July 25, a passerby found a dead body on the first floor of the Bryant Street garage.

The victim died due to blunt-force trauma, according to the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner.

Both the victim and the suspect were homeless, according to police.

Police said they conducted an extensive investigation and eventually the trail led to Lopez.

Police got a warrant on Thursday and later in the day arrested Lopez inside the parking garage at 528 High St.

“No further details are available for release at this time, including any speculation on a possible motive or the possibility that other suspects may have been involved,” police said in a statement today.

  1. James “Jimmy” Rudolph was a childhood friend of mine. He had his issues but had a great heart and did not deserve to go like this ! I hope that Murderer get what he has coming and doesn’t get off with an insanity plea….. What a POS !
