New leader for Castilleja

Castilleja School announced today (May 20) that it has selected its new head of school.

Betty Noel-Pierre will lead the K-12 girls’ school at 1310 Bryant St. in Palo Alto beginning next summer, according to a statement from Castilleja board members Odette Harris and Jeffrey Wong.

This means Castilleja will be led by interim head Julia Eells next school year.

Nanci Kauffman, who was the public face of the campus’s fight with neighbors in Palo Alto over enrollment and redevelopment resigned in September after leading the school for 13 years.

In the wake of her resignation, Kathy Layendecker was named Acting Head of School.

Noel-Pierre currently leads the upper school at Brearly School in Manhattan. She attended girls’ schools from kindergarten through 12th grade, according to her online bio. She graduated from the Chapin School in New York City.

Noel-Pierre has a PhD. in molecular genetics and microbiology from Stony Brook University. She began teaching science while earning her PhD, according to an online bio.
