The Salvation Army is hosting two free workshops next week for potential donors and wealth advisors focusing on how donors can make a meaningful impact while protecting their families’ assets and even increasing their income.
Hosted by Major Darren Norton, regional director for Golden State Division of The Salvation Army, an area that covers Northern and Central California, the workshops will be held in two sessions on March 13 at the William E. Walker Recreation Center at 650 Shell Blvd. in Foster City. The first, from 10:30 a.m. to noon, will be for donors and will include brunch and free will planning tools. Salvation Army Western Territorial Director of Gift Planning Jeffery C. Hesseltine, JD, MSSM, and Director of Gift Planning Evelyn Sanders-Haye, M.A., FCEP, CSPG, will present on topics including:
• Reducing tax burdens when transferring assets to the next generation
• Increasing your monthly income through charitable gift annuities
• Avoiding accidental disinheritance of loved ones
• Bypassing capital gains for appreciated property
• Providing for children with special needs
The second workshop for financial advisors and trust attorneys will go from 1 to 3 p.m. and include lunch. The presenters will focus on increasing assets under your management, bringing clients value with tax-saving strategies and helping clients create a meaningful impact.
“Strengthen connections with your clients and bring them more knowledge and information about how charitable giving can help them and improve the world,” said Ernst Bauer, Divisional Director of Development for The Salvation Army’s Golden State Division.
One of the largest private charities in America, The Salvation Army works in addiction recovery, poverty prevention, shelter and food programs, after-school programs for children, care for the elderly and much more. On any given night they provide housing to 750 people in San Francisco and about 70 people in the Silicon Valley who are unstably housed or struggling with addiction. With their new initiative, “The Way Out,” they hope to add more than 1,000 beds to that.
“We’re a big part of the safety net when it comes to taking care of the more fragile among us,” said Bauer. “We’re addressing social needs that are top of mind, including homelessness, hunger and drug and alcohol recovery. We do that better than anyone else.”
The workshops are free, however space is limited and registration is required. For more information or to register, please contact Anthony Ortiz at (415) 553-3588 or [email protected].
