Redwood City police say they arrested a 37-year-old man who tried to meet a 17-year-old girl for sex.
Arrested and jailed was Pouya Asrar, police said.
On Monday, police said Asrar initiated a text-based chat conversation with the victim. Police said the two had met in person as co-workers of the tutoring center Mathnasium in Sequoia Station. Police said the victim informed Asrar of her age. Asrar acknowledged that she was 17 and continued the conversation anyway, police said.
The messages became lewd and sexual in nature, police said.
Police detectives were able to get Asrar to a location where he thought he was going to meet with the girl to have sexual relations. Instead, he was promptly arrested. Police searched him and found condoms.
“What made this a successful case was the fact that the victim quickly reached out to authorities and fully cooperated with the investigation,” police said in a statement.
“Without the victim’s assistance, we wouldn’t have known that this predator was in our city,” police said. “This is a great example of a young person stepping up and doing the right thing.”
