An organized crew hit The RealReal in downtown Palo Alto and stole jewelry and designer handbags worth more than $50,000, police said.
Four men entered the store at 379 University Ave. wearing hooded sweatshirts and medical masks to cover their faces on Oct. 17 at 11:50 a.m., police said.
One man stood at the front door with his hands in his pocket “as if he was concealing something,” while another man used a tool to break the glass on several display cases, Lt. Con Maloney said.
Other members of the crew grabbed handbags off the wall and tried to break display cases by kicking them, police said.
A getaway driver was waiting in a red Toyota sedan.
The crew stole handbags from Dior, Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Prada, and jewelry from Tiffany and Dior, police said.
A security guard was outside but didn’t try to stop the theft, Maloney said.
In November 2021, a crew of around 30 people tried to shatter the glass door and windows of The RealReal and ransack the store, but they couldn’t get inside before police arrived.
