Pedestrian running across Highway 101 is badly injured

A pedestrian was badly injured after being struck by a vehicle on Highway 101 in Redwood City tonight (Oct. 16), California Highway Patrol said.

Around 7:25 p.m., a person ran from the right shoulder across all lanes of northbound Highway 101 near the Maple Street overcrossing, according to CHP.

A car was in the second lane and braked in an attempt to swerve to the right to avoid the person, but wasn’t able to fully change lanes because another car was in its way. The car hit the pedestrian with the front left of the vehicle.

The pedestrian was taken to the hospital with major injuries and their current condition is not known, according to CHP.

    • I actually saw the guy. Was some sort of mentally unwell homeless person who had walked up from Seaport where he likely lives. He’s still with us .. as soon as he’s discharged from the hospital he’ll go right back there and will continue throwing feces at adjacent port workers.

It’s very typical, we don’t have any place for these people in the county so they just die or become really messed up from this. He’ll be messed up on fentanyl and will probably die from it at some point in the next 3-4 years. His buddies all live behind the public storage on the other side of the freeway and in redwood creek. I see them all the time at the Autozone.

  1. I feel badly for the motorist who apparently did what they could by swerving to avoid hitting the pedestrian. Unfortunately due to no fault of the motorist, the motorist now has to deal with the guilt of likely an unavoidable collision where a person ran in front of a car, hitting this person despite mightily trying to avoid the impact, the damage to his/her/their car, any injuries both may suffer, and the ensuing accompanying insurance and paperwork. This is a never ending nightmare for the motorist.
