Police say they’ve arrested one of the dinnertime burglars

Cesar Carmona, 23, of Santa Clara

Palo Alto police announced today (Aug. 1) that they have arrested one of the dinnertime burglars. The dinnertime burglary crew would go into unoccupied homes during the dinnertime hours and take jewelry and other valuables.

Arrested was Cesar Carmona, 23, of Santa Clara, who was already in the Santa Clara County Jail on unrelated charges in the city of Santa Clara, according to police.

After the rash of dinnertime burglaries occurred between October 2022 and May 2023, Palo Alto police started investigating and determined that Carmona was part of the burglary crew.

Palo Alto police worked with police in San Jose and Fremont and connected Carmona to three additional incidents in San Jose and one in Fremont.

As a result, on July 27, the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office charged Carmona with seven counts of burglary, four counts of attempted burglary, and four counts of vandalism (all felonies).

Carmona was charged with these Palo Alto burglaries:

• Oct. 22, 2022, 700 block of Rosewood Drive.

• Oct. 28, 2022, 4200 block of Briarwood Way.

• Feb. 16, 2023, 3600 block of Ramona Street.

• March 22, 2023, 700 block of Talisman Court.

• May 2, 2023, 1400 block of Byron Street.

Police are still investigating to identify the other members of the burglary crew. Police said they are also investigating the possibility that Carmona is responsible for additional burglaries.

  1. Burglary is a property crime, but it can wreak havoc. Knowing someone broke in and could easily come back when they get out isn’t exactly comforting.
