Caltrain contractor cuts 40 jobs as ridership plunges

In an attempt to balance its books before getting money from the recently approved one-eighth-of-a-cent sales tax, Caltrain is furloughing about 40 people.

Caltrain is not directly furloughing anyone, Caltrain’s Chief Operating Officer Michelle Bouchard said during the board’s meeting on Thursday via Zoom video conference. This is because the employees who will be furloughed are employed through contractor Transit America Service Inc. or TASI. …
