The San Mateo County Fair will not be occurring this year because the San Mateo County Event Center has become a COVID-19 testing site and a temporary hospital, fair organizers announced yesterday (April 2).

The fair was supposed to happen between June 13 and 31. The temporary hospital at the event center is to be running for at least the next 90 days, according to the statement, which coincides with the county fair dates.

This is the second time in 86 years that the fair will be canceled. The only other time was during World War II, according to a statement from organizers.

“We look forward to serving our clients, partners, vendors, and Fair family through this crisis. We will come together again to celebrate our youth, crafters, makers, exhibitors, and business partners when our communities are healthy and safe.” said Justin Aquino, Fair Operations Manager.
