A Redwood City man who posed as a dentist and fitted people for dentures was sentenced yesterday to six months in jail for drug possession, a prosecutor said. Joseph Hirsch, 59, will also be on probation for three years, according to San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe.

Hirsch was arrested on March 14 after narcotics officers raided his office at 663 Old County Road in San Carlos.

Hirsch had concentrated marijuana, or hash, oxycodone pills and meth, the DA said. Authorities said he also had a dentist’s chair, dental tools and an X-ray machine.

Hirsch ran Thermal Dentistry in what police called a “crude” dentist’s office. Whether Hirsch was practicing dentistry is being investigated by the Dental Board of California, Wagstaffe said.
