An East Palo Alto man has been sentenced to two years and three months in prison for domestic violence for a fight in which his girlfriend lost a tooth, a prosecutor said.

Jesus Eduardo Flores, 31, was found guilty of domestic violence by a jury on March 13, said District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe.

Flores’ girlfriend called 911 after he had beaten her and needed assistance because he had punched her in the face and broken her tooth on Oct. 24, 2024, Wagstaffe said. East Palo Alto police arrived at 430 O’Keefe St. and found the victim and noticed she was missing her front tooth. Officers searched the home to find the tooth but couldn’t find it.

When officers detained Flores, Wagstaffe said they found the missing tooth in his pocket.

Flores was then taken to jail and waited 163 days behind bars for his trial, Wagstaffe said. The time that he stayed in jail was doubled for good behavior, resulting in 325 days being knocked off his total sentence of three years.

As a result of the incident, the girlfriend has a 10-year restraining order against Flores. Flores will be transferred to state prison in the next few days, Wagstaffe said.
