A 55-year-old man from Washington state has been arrested for burglary after he was found inside the Goodwill store at 4085 El Camino Way in Palo Alto after hours, police said.

It began Thursday at 9:23 p.m. when police received a report of an alarm at the store. Officers responded and discovered an open door at the back of the building.

Police searched inside and found a man inside. The man, Desmond Stites, 55, of Amboy, Wash., had entered the closed business via a rear door that had likely been unlocked, police said.

Once inside, he began selecting items to steal, police said. At the time of his arrest, he was wearing a pair of gloves stolen from the store, police said.

Police booked Stites into the Santa Clara County Main Jail in San Jose for commercial burglary, a felony.
