Police have arrested four women after a shopper recorded them on video taking a large amount of merchandise from Macy’s at the Stanford Shopping Center, authorities said.
At 3:48 p.m. Sunday (Jan. 12), police received a report of a grab-and-run at Macy’s. When officers got there, they met a shopper who saw four women stealing armloads of clothing and shoes, police said.
The witness recorded video of the thieves and followed them. One of the thieves became agitated that she was being recorded and lunged at the witness, kicking her in the butt, according to police. The witness wasn’t injured.
As the four left Macy’s, they dropped some of the stolen clothing at various places before jumping into a vehicle and fleeing.
The witness followed the women into the parking lot and called police with their descriptions.
The four headed east and got as far as University Avenue and Donohoe Street in East Palo Alto, when they were stopped by police and ordered out of their car at gunpoint.
Inside their car, police found more than $5,000 in merchandise.
