UPDATE, Thursday, Aug. 25 —  Menlo Park Police have arrested an East Palo Alto teen for the shooting that occurred near the 7-Eleven on Oak Grove on Sunday.

Police arrested Sosefo Ahofono, 19, yesterday (Aug. 24) after police worked “around the clock sorting through volumes of witness statements, officer reports and evidence.” Chief Dave Norris said in a statement.

The shooting happened at 1:20 p.m. Sunday, and one man was hit. He was taken to the hospital and suffered from “serious but not life threatening” injuries, Norris told the city council on Tuesday.

The shooting is believed to be a targeted attack, according to Norris.

Ahofono is in jail, booked by police on a charge of attempted murder. He will be in court tomorrow and remains in jail on no bail status.

SUNDAY, Aug. 12 — One man was wounded in a drive-by shooting today (Aug. 21) at Oak Grove Avenue and Alma Street next to 7-Eleven in Menlo Park.

Drive-by shootings are unusual in that part of the city, which is on the edge of downtown and located not far homes with hefty price tags. Drive-bys are more common in the east part of town.

Police haven’t located the car from which the shots were fired.

However, police said they believe the intended targets of the shooting were four people who were seated in a parked car.

“The investigation indicates that this was an isolated incident — the suspects fled the scene immediately after the crime, and there is no active threat in the area,” police said in a statement last night.

The shooting happened at 1:20 p.m. yesterday and officers arrived within two minutes of receiving a 911 call, police said.

The officers rendered first aid and the victim was rushed to Stanford Hospital.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Menlo Park Police Department’s Detective Unit at (650) 330-6300.

  1. Not to worry. Attorney General Bonta says that California’s gun laws are working and that gun violence is not a problem. Not.

    • It’s not a gun problem (of course stricter gun laws and harsher punishments for illegal firearms possession and gun crimes would make our nation tremendously safer)…

It’s a problem with “demographics “, behavior, and culture. You figure it out (you probably have already.)

    • Stereotypes don’t just start from nothing. I think it’s great that a suspects name is put out in print for all to see. For attempted murder charge anyways. If suspects name had been a white name, Irish, British, etc., would you have made the same comment? Because there are plenty of whites that shoot people too. And I guarantee if it was in fact, a white name, then he or she’s name would’ve been blasted all over the news. So get over your pity potty crap about stereotypes….

      • You don’t read much, do you? White people get charged with crimes all the time, and their names are “blasted” all over the paper. You’d know that if you read the paper once in a while. Take a look at this website. I see a story about a white guy assaulting gay and trans people on August 22 and another story about a white guy who shot a cop in mountain view in July. That took me less than a minute to find. Were you a public school student?

      • You’ve answered your own question. There’s a reason some stereotypes exist. Some stereotypes exist thanks to media propaganda while others are rooted in statistical evidence. And everyday observation…

When’s the last time you saw a group of Indian teens, or even White teens looting a mall or robbing a senior citizen?

Gang culture is more prevalent amongst certain groups. You know it probably but don’t talk about it because it’s not politically correct.

Whites commit gun violence… this is true, but usually not drive by shootings.

      • NorthSacJM,

I’m curious if you’re White or one of those “oppressed minorities “. There are bad people in all races, criminals come from all backgrounds. But statistically some groups commit more crime than others. Do your research…

It’s the same for basketball. There are kids of all different ethnicities who excel at this sport but The NBA is 80-85 percent African American.

As for stereotypes, I’ll throw out one. Most pedophiles seem to be White men. Most serial killers are White men. Happy now?

  2. it’s funny how the media and the politicians call it “gun violence,” as if the gun decided to shoot somebody — not the person who was holding it.
