Update: Arrest made in murder on Cooley St.

UPDATE, SUNDAY: Police have arrested a man suspected of stabbing to death an East Palo Alto resident in his home.

Darnell McKean, 47, was taken into custody in the Mission District at 6:10 p.m. Saturday in connection with the murder of Mario Ventura, 50, in the 1900 block of Cooley Street on Friday night.

East Palo Alto Interim Police Chief Jeff Liu said McKean would be booked into San Mateo County jail on murder charges. Liu said the arrest was made with assistance from the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office, the Atherton Police Department, Menlo Park Police Department, San Mateo County Gang Task Force and the San Francisco Police Department.

ORIGINAL STORY, SATURDAY: A 50-year-old man was stabbed to death in a home in the 1900 block of Cooley Street in East Palo Alto, police said.

Police discovered the man’s body at 11:12 p.m. on Friday (July 29).

The victim’s name is being withheld until his next of kin are notified.

This is East Palo Alto’s fourth homicide of 2022.
