Two inmates escape from Palo Alto Courthouse

By the Daily Post staff

Authorities are looking for the two inmates above who fled from the Palo Alto Courthouse this morning in what a sheriff’s official called an “orchestrated escape attempt.”

Sheriff’s Sgt. Reggie Cooks said inmates John Bivins, 46, and Tramel McClough, 47, both of East Palo Alto, ran from the courthouse at 9:30 a.m. to a waiting car, which took them to a second vehicle that was parked about two to three blocks away from the courthouse. From there, they vanished.

Both men had been arrested in an armed robbery case, Cooks said. They took $64,400 of cellphones from a Verizon store in Sunnyvale, police said.

Cooks said the men left a courtroom, entered a hallway and then fled. Deputies who were supposed to guard the men chased them outside, but they got away in a waiting car.

Bivins is described as a 5-foot-9, 180 pound black man with brown eyes and black hair. McClough McClough is a 6-foot, 4-inch black man who weighs 285 pounds.

Anyone that sees them is advised to call 911 or the sheriff’s office at (408) 808-3670.
